Edit In , Shore, Attanasio and Jacobs, pitched the show untitled at the time to Fox as a CSI-style medical detective program, a hospital whodunit in which the doctors investigated symptoms and their causes. Fox bought the series, though the network’s then-president, Gail Berman, told the creative team, “I want a medical show, but I don’t want to see white coats going down the hallway”.
Jacobs has said that this stipulation was one of the many influences that led to the show’s ultimate form. As Shore put it, “We knew the network was looking for procedurals, and Paul Attanasio came up with this medical idea that was like a cop procedural. The suspects were the germs. But I quickly began to realize that we needed that character element. I mean, germs don’t have motives. The original premise of the show was of a team of doctors working together trying to “diagnose the undiagnosable”.
Shore felt it was important to have an interesting central character, one who could examine patients’ personal characteristics and diagnose their ailments by figuring out their secrets and lies. As Shore and the rest of the creative team explored the character’s possibilities, the program concept became less of procedure and more focused upon the lead role. The character was named “House” from the inspiration of the character, Sherlock Holmes , which was adopted as the show’s title, as well.
Shore developed the characters further and wrote the script for the pilot episode. Bryan Singer, who directed the pilot episode and had a major role in casting the primary roles, has said that the “title of the pilot was ‘Everybody Lies’, and that’s the premise of the show”. Shore traced the concept for the title character to his experience as a patient at a teaching hospital.

Michael Cera was rumored to be dating his ‘Paper Heart’ co-star Charlene Yi back in , but both stars later said they were never romantically involved.
The first time they stuffed into a van with nine others to make their film Paper Heart. The trip is unquestionably more laid back this time around. Yet, Paper Heart is a sweet, smart mix of genres: Yi, playing herself, stars in a documentary about searching for love while unexpectedly starting a relationship with real-life pal Michael Cera as himself. We talked to the duo about the experience. In the film, Charlyne is followed constantly by a documentary film crew. Was the shooting that demanding, or did you follow more of a narrative film schedule?
I think it was more a narrative schedule. We basically started with four weeks on the road and drove from LA to New York. It was just really like a weird road trip like a road trip with a band because there were 11 of us in the van. The movie was essentially shot this way: Did you shoot in sequence? No, we shot the last stuff first, which was terrifying. Because we wanted the snow to kind of create an atmosphere.

As befits a city where comedians come to be discovered, it also has its share of lesser-known names, mostly performing in support of the stars. And as befits a city where Andy Kaufman got his start, it has a grown man acting like a hyperactive boy who thinks the audience members are guests at his birthday party, as well as a woman who, explaining that she is too sick to talk, lip-syncs her act to a recording of her own voice.
What he did is hard to do; it takes a lot of commitment. Kaufman was the comedian who wrestled women. Who disguised himself as an oafish lounge singer and was his own opening act. Who played a range of roles, onstage and off, but never, ever broke character. Whether he was even a comedian remains debatable; he once said that he considered himself a song-and-dance man. Oddly, Bob Dylan said the same thing about himself. I finally persuaded him to keep it to two minutes.

Neil Strauss became famous to millions around the world as the author of The Game, a funny and slyly instructive account of how he transformed himself from a scrawny, insecure nerd into the ultraconfident, ultrasuccessful “pickup artist” known as Style. The book jump-started the international “seduction community” and made Strauss a household name – revered or notorious – among single men and women alike. But the experience of writing The Game also transformed Strauss into a man who could have what every man wants: The results were heady, to be sure.
But they also conditioned him to view the world as a kind of constant parade of women, sex, and opportunity – with intimacy and long-term commitment taking a backseat. That is until he met the woman who forced him to choose between herself and the parade. The choice was not only difficult, it was wrenching. It forced him deep into his past, to confront not only the moral dimensions of his pickup lifestyle but also a wrenching mystery in his childhood that shaped the man he became.
It sent him into extremes of behavior that exposed just how conflicted his life had become.

Only instead of providing raunchy satire or exposing people’s prejudices, it seems all Charlyne Yi wants to do is sweetly entertain. The writer, actress and standup comic travels the country interviewing regular people about being in love, a phenomenon that has eluded her in her early 20s. She goes to a biker bar in Oklahoma City, a playground in Atlanta and everywhere in between. At the same time, Yi playing a version of herself finds that she’s unexpectedly falling for a new guy she’s met named Michael Michael Cera , playing a version of himself.
They court at hipster hangouts in Hollywood — Cera in a wide array of hoodies, Yi in her messy ponytail and dark-rimmed glasses — play music for each other and hold hands in the grocery store while shopping for frozen pizza. This is the made-up subplot. In real life, Yi and Cera are close pals; they even co-wrote the score for “Paper Heart” together. It was rumored that they’d been dating and recently broke up, though Yi now says they’ve always been just friends.
